Self Image and Locus of Control of Adolescent Runaway

Abstract
The aims of this study are to identify runaway¢¥s locus of control and the relationship between perceived self-image and internal locus of control. It is also hypothesized that subjects with positive self-image are rather internal control than ones with negative selfimage. The subjects were consisted of 60 runaways compared to 60 non-runaway adolescents. Rotter¢¥s Locus of Control Scale and Hauser¢¥s open self-image statements which is requested the subjects to describe his perception about himself were administered.
The results were as follow.
1. Differences of internal locus of control between runaways and non-runaway group are not significant statistically.
2. Subjects with negative present self-image in non-runaways were seems to be rather internal control tendency, but not statistically significant. However, any tendency does nott appeared in runaway group.
3. The relation between internal locus of control and future orientation shuch as the emphasis on humanistic aspects or professional aspects are not statistically meaningful.
4. Positive self-image in the peer relationship was revealed to be positive relationship with the internal locus of control in non-runaway group.
Even though this study was failed to obtain the positive relation between self-image and internal locus of control, it was suggested that runaway behavior does not explained according to the only internal frame of reference or characters. In any events, multi-dimensional approach such as cultural, environmental, internal characters and so on. Must be necessary to understand runaway behavior.
